| All gun control policy obfuscates citizen authority to act when facing grave danger, and makes the citizen more fearful of officials and the system than of thugs and murderers. Some are forced to choose between felony and funeral this way, in taking their chances with crime over the more certain odds against them in the system.
This has a tremendously adverse affect on whole communities, including large student populations on campus. One item obfuscated is that Police have no duty to protect individuals from the criminal acts of others. Since the inception of an organized police force in the middle 1800's, law enforcement has never had a mandate to protect individuals with only rare exception, and most folks do not meet that exception. Constituents fear the ire of their officials and the system more than the anger of thugs.
